1940 Curtiss P-40E Aleutian Tiger #241

The only US aircraft ever shot down over US soil and recovered, #241 was piloted by Lt. Winfred McIntyre on June 4, 1942, on his way to defend Dutch Harbor being attacked by Japan’s naval air forces. Strafed by a Japanese Zero, McIntyre crashed on the island of Unalaska. Recovered by the Alaska Aviation Museum in 1998, the aircraft is undergoing a slow restoration process.
