FIELD TRIPS AT THE ALASKA AVIATION MUSEUM

For the 2017-18 school year, the Alaska Aviation Museum is offering free field trips and science festivals. Both field trips and science festivals must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance. Field Trips can accommodate between 10 and 150 students at a time. If you have more or fewer students, please contact Kelly Gwynn at education@alaskaairmuseum.org for more information.

Field Trips:

  • Guided Experiences: All Guided Experiences are 45 minutes and can accommodate up to 35 students at a time. If you have a larger group, we will split students up into class-sized groups and rotate through activities. Can’t come to the museum? Let us bring the museum to you! Science of Flight and Fun with Frankenplanes are also available as outreach programs.
    • Science of Flight- Students experiment with different shapes to create a successful aircraft. Class covers scientific method/engineering design, four forces of flight, and axis of flight.

    • Crash Site Investigation: Investigate the museum’s airplane wrecks!

  • Docent-led Tour: Docent tours of the museum are 45 minutes, cover the history of Alaska through aircraft, include interactive elements, and are appropriate for all grade levels.
  • Self-guided museum exploration: Students and teachers or chaperones can discover the museum together. Feel free to bring your own materials—scavenger hunt, journals and pencils for sketching and note-taking, or your own assignment.

Science Festivals

Science Festivals consist of aviation-themed table-top hands-on exhibits available for evening programs, or to bring in during the school day.
